THE ACTORS PANTRY

EAG's Actors Pantry, the only food bank specific to the performing arts community, continues to be a vital part of the sustenance services we offer to our Emergency Aid and Relief Program clients. The Actors Pantry is located on-site and is available to all clients by appointment or when they are here for other support services, offering them a much-needed opportunity to select nutritious, high-quality, non-perishable food items.  This program started in 2014 in response to an increasing number of clients reporting a lack of food for themselves and their families. Since that time, we have been able to help over 300 people and their families with free groceries each year.
In March 2020, at the start of the pandemic, we shifted all of our operations online, temporarily closing our physical, on-site Actors Pantry. However, we immediately started to reimagine how our Actors Pantry could best ward off food insecurity for performers in need during these extremely difficult times. We now provide food to our most vulnerable populations by utilizing Instacart (and volunteers) to deliver groceries to those who, due to their age or other risk  factors, cannot or should not leave their homes. For those who are able and willing to head out and shop on their own, we are able to email grocery store gift cards directly to their inboxes.

Due to COVID-19, food insecurity is at an all-time high. In the first seven months of the pandemic alone (March 12 – October 16, 2020), we provided food to 348 performing artists and their families.
