Auditions
Following the rousing success of last year’s benefit reading of Arsenic and Old Lace, EAG is preparing a benefit reading of another classic play: The Man Who Came to Dinner.
AUDITIONS for The Man Who Came to Dinner will be held on Tuesday, April 21, between 3 pm and 6 pm.
Auditions are open to all EAG members, Equity and non-Equity.
Location: Guild Hall, 1 East 29th Street, NYC 10016
Actors must be able to commit to two performances, which are scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 3pm; and Monday, July 27, 7pm. Location: Guild Hall. Actors must also commit to a rehearsal schedule in June/July.
Equity actors will be appearing under the regulations of the Theatre Authority, which limits fundraising benefits to two performances, and 25 hours of rehearsal.
The purpose of the benefit reading is to raise funds for EAG. There is no pay for the performers.
The production team consists of EAG members: Jane Buchanan, Ginnine Cocuzza, Ariana Johns, Evangeline Johns, and Joanna Newman. Together they are the 4EverYoungCompany. Jane and Ginnine will be co-directing The Man Who Came to Dinner.
The 4EverYoungCompany was responsible for producing last year’s benefit reading of Arsenic and Old Lace.
AUDITION DETAILS FOR APRIL 21, AT GUILD HALL:
We are casting a wide and diverse range of character types, no age restrictions.
Please note, the role of Sheridan Whiteside has been cast, to be played by EAG member, Peter Von Berg.
The audition will be divided into three slots of one hour each: sign up for 3pm, 4pm, or 5pm. Plan to stay for the entire hour you chose.
The audition process will be a group effort. We are looking to create an ensemble. The cast is large and there will be doubling of roles. We will gather in a group, introduce each other, and co-directors Ginnine and Jane will hand out scenes and ask one or two three or more to read through a scene.
The play is The Man Who Came to Dinner by Kaufman and Hart. We will have sides and/or scripts available of various scenes for actors to use.
You can go to YouTube and view the full Broadway production (2000), filmed live, starring Nathan Lane. This is free and available. The entire play script can be checked out of the library. Also, you can view the 1941 movie, with Monty Woolley and Bette Davis. Please note the movie has been altered somewhat from the Broadway play script, but it is essentially all there, with all the characters represented. Be acquainted with knowledge of the play and characters, think about which character(s) appeal to you and you feel right for.
Remember, the performances will be readings; actors will have scripts in hand.
The goal of the auditions is to recruit a core group, an ensemble of ten to 12 actors, to cover all roles.
Please bring picture and resume.
