The Thomas Barbour Playwrights Award

Picture
The Barbour Award was created in 2007 to celebrate new work for the theatre. Each year, EAG partners with a different local theatre company, playwriting program, or playwriting collective to present staged readings of three new plays, with one writer being awarded a prize of $500.
  • The 2023 Barbour Award readings will take place in June 2023.
  • It is the responsbility of our Barbour partner to select our three Barbour Award finalists. We are looking for full-length plays that have not yet had a full production. These plays should be "production-ready" drafts, not early or mid-process pieces.
  • EAG can only accept applications from a company, collective or playwriting program working with at least 3 different playwrights. Individual playwrights are not able to apply on their own for this Award.
The Application to apply to be our 2023 parner is now live (bit.ly/barbour-2023). We are accepting applications from January 16, 2023 until February 13, 2023.  No applications will be accepted after the deadline.

The Barbour Committee will evaluate all applications in late February and hopes to select EAG's 2023 Barbour Playwrights Award partner by mid-March 2023.
